NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Purchase College men's tennis team jumped back into the win column with a 9-0 victory at Mount Saint Mary College Wednesday afternoon.

The Skyline Conference matchup not only secured Purchase a spot in the Skyline postseason but marked the third-straight year that the Panthers (8-5, 3-3 SKY) bested the Knights (1-7, 1-5 SKY), and second-straight in shutout fashion. 

Purchase set the tone early, sweeping all three doubles matches in 8-0 decisions.

Julian Szuper (5th/New York, NY) and Yuta Kawamura (FR/Greenwich, CT) teamed up at the top spot for the first time this season. Following finishes at the third and second positions, respectively, the No. 1 duo rounded out doubles scoring with the shutout win against Mount's Carly Green and Victoria Valencia. 

Purchase kept rolling in singles play, combining for a 72-1 game advantage across the six matches. 

Szuper advanced his No. 1 singles record 10-2 overall with a shutout victory over Matthew Ropiak. Kawamura, in his No. 2 singles debut, bested Green by scores of 6-0, 6-0.

At third singles, J.T. Maccarrone recorded Mount's only game win of the day, but it was not enough as Purchase senior Ben Joory (Port Washington, NY) won the rest en route to a 6-1, 6-0 decision. 

Steve Mains (SO/Mount Kisco, NY), Oliver Culliton (SO/Boston, MA) and Simon Bruce (FR/Gloversville, NY) rounded out scoring with 6-0, 6-0 victories at fourth, fifth and sixth singles, respectively.

The Panthers return to their home court on Saturday for their 2023 Senior Day and final match of the regular season. The Skyline dual match against the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy is crucial, to say the least, as its result will break the current tie in league standings between the two teams. 

Prior to the 11 a.m. match start, Purchase will welcome teammates, family and friends to the courts for a brief Senior Day celebration.
