Purchase Rolls in Win Over New Paltz

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College baseball team rolled to a win Wednesday evening, cruising past SUNY New Paltz by the score of 4-1 in a non-conference showdown.

With the win, the Panthers improved to 15-16 overall. For the Hawks, they dropped to 10-22 with the result.

The hosts got off to a quick start on the night, scoring in the bottom of the first via an RBI-single from Patrick Reyes (FR/Plainedge, NY).

Two innings later, the Panthers doubled their run total when Jemal Betances (SR/Bronx, NY) scored off a wild pitch.

However, the highlight of the game came in the fourth frame, when first-year catcher Frank Rega (West Islip, NY) blasted a solo homer to lift Purchase in front, 3-0.

From there, the guests scored once in the top of the fifth, but were held off the board the rest of the way.

In the eighth inning, Liam Daly (FR/Babylon, NY) padded the lead with an RBI-single, extending it to 4-1 where the game eventually finished.

Individually, Daly led all players with three hits, including a triple in the win. Reyes also collected a triple in a two-hit performance.

On the mound, Bryan Atkinson (JR/Emerson, NJ) earned the start and the win. While he only pitched three innings, Atkinson allowed just two hits over the designated timeframe.

Meanwhile, Betances collected the save, his fourth of the year, after recording the final three outs of the day.

Up next for the Blue and Orange is a return to Skyline Conference action, as the team hits the final stretch of the year.

Their next two games will be at Manhattanville College on April 29. First pitch of game one is set for 11 a.m.
