Men's Lacrosse Concludes Season at Manhattanville

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase College men's lacrosse team wrapped up its 2023 campaign at neighboring Manhattanville College Saturday afternoon. Both teams battled in the rain-soaked Skyline affair but in the end, it would be the host Valiants for the win, 14-8.

In the first quarter, Manhattanville (7-9, 3-4 SKY) delivered three unanswered goals before Purchase (6-10, 2-5) fired in a pair of its own to bring the lead to one goal (3-2).

With just over six minutes remaining in the stanza, senior midfielder Joe Ely (North Salem, NY) broke Purchase's scoring ice with an unassisted tally. Sophomore attacker Zach Collins (Victor, NY) lit up PC's board again after ripping an unassisted shot past Manhattanville goalie Joe Ulzheimer with six seconds left in the first quarter.

Collins scored again in the second quarter but the Valiants fired back with a slew of unanswered tallies to open up a 9-3 lead.

Ely and Kevon Joseph (FR/Brooklyn, NY) combined for a pair of Purchase goals in the third quarter but Manhattanville capped the stanza with a 2-0 run to lead 12-5.

Collins scored back-to-back goals off feeds from Shakim Carr (FR/Brooklyn, NY) and Cristian Ishoo (5th/Tarrytown, NY), respectively, to open the fourth.  Carr notched the final goal of the game, assisted by Angus Goldman (SR/Palisades, NY) at 5:59.

Purchase held the scoring edge, 3-2, over the final 15 minutes of play but the Panthers were unable to erase the early deficit as they closed the game in defeat, 14-8.

For Purchase, Collins led the squad with four goals on five shots. The performance earned the standout attacker his fifth hat trick of the season.

Will Boes (SO/Pleasantville, NY) played every minute in goal for Purchase, tallying a notable 17 saves while allowing 14 goals. With the result, he capped his sophomore campaign at 6-10 overall.

Manhattanville's Nick Cornelia and Sean Larkin combined for nine of the hosts' 14 goals, while Sal DeBenedetto served as the team's leading defender with six caused turnovers and seven ground balls.

Ulzheimer picked up his fifth win of the season following the complete-game performance in goal. He collected 11 saves on the day.
