Panthers Close Season at Mount Saint Vincent

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's lacrosse team finished the 2023 season Saturday afternoon, falling at Mount Saint Vincent by the score of 20-6.

Despite the defeat, it was the guests that opened the game with the first goal, as Alyssa Kozak (JR/East Meadow, NY) found the back of the net just over two minutes in.

The Dolphins then answered with back-to-back goals, before Brienne Westfall (SR/Grand Island, NY) tied the action at 2-2 with a strike just under the 10-minute mark in the opening quarter.

From there, the hosts exploded offensively to the tune of 13-straight goals to close out the half and lead 15-2 at the break.

Midway through the third period, Westfall broke the scoring streak with her second goal of the day, before Kozak added a hat trick of goals over the final two periods to push the Panthers to six goals on the day.

Overall, Kozak led the offense with four goals on six shots, while Analie Ingalsbe (SO/West Hurley, NY) and Julieth Velasquez (FR/White Plains, NY) each recorded an assist in the effort.

On defense, Michelle Gomez (SR/Oceanside, NY) totaled four ground balls and two draw controls. In goal, Casandra Schmoger (SR/Islip, NY) compiled 20 saves and four ground balls for Purchase.

With the result, the Panthers completed the year 2-11 overall and 0-9 in the Skyline Conference. For the Dolphins, they finished with records of 5-9 and 4-5, respectively.

The Blue and Orange will return to action next spring for the 2024 season.
