Women's Soccer Extends Unbeaten Streak to Five with 2-0 Sweep Over Saint Elizabeth

Panthers set program record to open the season

MADISON, N.J. – The Purchase College women's soccer team delivered a commanding performance as they triumphed over Saint Elizabeth University, 2-0, in a fiercely contested matchup on Wednesday at Robert T. Shields Field.

With this resounding victory, the Panthers set a program-best unbeaten streak at 2-0-3 to start the season. Saint Elizabeth dropped to an even .500 at 2-2 overall in defeat.

In a game filled with thrilling moments and impressive plays, it was freshman forward Lindita Selmani (Brooklyn, NY) who broke the scoring ice for the Panthers. Selmani notched the game-winner with an unassisted strike in the 35th minute.

Purchase closed the half with a trio of shots, including a Jessica McHugh (Ellenville, NY) on-goal attempt at 41:05, but Eagle netminder Salma Ibrahim made the save to keep hope alive for the hosts.

The second half opened with a slew of shots from both teams. The back-and-forth battle continued until the 71st minute when junior forward Rebecca Quick (Millbrook, NY) displayed her scoring prowess with an unassisted tally to push PC's lead to 2-0.

The Panthers maintained a relentless offensive pressure throughout the game, amassing 18 shots, with six of them finding their target. Saint Elizabeth totaled eight shots, including three on frame.

Despite being tagged with the loss, the Eagles managed to secure a 4-3 edge in saves while also holding a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Purchase goalkeeper Carolyn Hough (SO/Massapequa, NY) showcased another impressive run between the posts, making three crucial saves en route to her third-consecutive shutout.

The Panthers will take to the road again this Saturday for a 1 p.m. non-conference game hosted by the Raptors of Bard College.
