Women's Volleyball Bested by Farmingdale

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's volleyball team was defeated in the Skyline Conference home opener Wednesday evening, falling to Farmingdale State College in straight sets.

Scores for the contest were 25-22, 25-19 and 25-13. With the result, the Panthers moved to 2-7 overall and 1-1 in the Skyline. For the Rams, they jumped to 2-4 and 1-0, respectively.

On the night, the Blue and Orange hit .092 with 18 kills overall. Meanwhile, Farmingdale State finished with 43 kills on .192 hitting.

In the opening set, the Panthers fell behind early before valiantly rallying back to get within striking distance numerous times. However, the Rams did just enough down the stretch to prevail with the opening-set win.

From there, the two sides played another close stanza during the middle frame, until the guests used a 6-1 run late to create space and earn the victory.

After that, the third set was won decisively by the Rams, as they cruised in straight sets.

Individually, Jessica Scott (JR/Briarcliff, NY) led the effort for the Panthers, recording a team-high six kills.

Marcella Pena (FR/Bronx, NY) added four kills and six digs, while Natalia Leite (FR/Thornwood, NY) collected 15 assists and six digs.

Up next for Purchase is a return to non-conference action, as the teams travels to New Jersey for a tri-match on September 23rd. The Blue and Orange will face Rutgers University-Newark and Lehman College beginning at 1 p.m.
