RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's soccer team suffered a 7-0 setback in a rain-soaked Skyline Conference game hosted by Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday.
Emily Legler and Dana DeDominicis combined for five goals to lead Mount (3-3-1, 1-0-1 Skyline).
Purchase (2-3-4, 1-2 Skyline) held the hosts in check until Caitlyn Thompson connected with DeDominicis, who opened up the scoring with a shot to the right post. The duo teamed up again minutes later to push the Dolphin lead to 2-0.
Purchase trailed 3-0 at the break. The Panthers looked to find their composure in the back-45, but as the rain and wind grew heavier, speed of play grew slower.
Sophomore midfielder
Julieth Velasquez (White Plains, NY) and junior forward
Rebecca Quick (Millbrook, NY) rattled off the only two shots of the game for PC, both taken in the second half. The attempts were dismissed by Dolphin netminder Javiera Sanchez to preserve the shutout.
The home team, unfazed by Mother Nature's presence in the game, went on to record four more goals to secure the 7-0 win.
The Panthers were outshot 35-1 including an 18-1 shots on net differential.
Sophomore goalie
Carolyn Hough (Massapequa, NY) totaled 10 saves and five goals against, before rookie Panther
Keziah Samuel (FR/Wingdale, NY) came off the bench to record one save across three shots from the Dolphin offense.
Looking to bounce back from Saturday's loss, the Panthers return to Skyline action on Tuesday, Sept. 26. Purchase will play host to the Bears of St. Joseph's University (Brooklyn) starting at 7 p.m.
