PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's soccer team dropped a 5-0 non-conference decision to The City College of New York Saturday afternoon at home.
Purchase (3-4-4) recorded the first shot on goal—an attempt from sophomore midfielder
Julieth Velasquez (White Plains, NY) in the opening two minutes that was saved by goalie Laila Issa.
Just over ten minutes later, CCNY (3-2) opened up the scoring with a goal by Karen Pineda. The game-winner and Pineda's fifth of the season was assisted by Lauren Villatoro.
The visiting Beavers later rallied with a trio of goals scored just minutes apart. At 37:40, Villatoro sent a pass to Stella Bolduc, who netted her third goal of the season. Villatoro then went on to tally the next two goals at 38:46 and 39:34, respectively, to push CCNY's advantage to 4-0.
Purchase came out strong in the second half, despite the opposing attack holding a 1-0 goal advantage to secure the win.
CCNY dominated in its attacking third, holding a 30-6 shot advantage (16-3 on goal) over 90 minutes of play. The Beavers also held a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
In her first start of the season for the Beavers, Issa notched her first shutout win with a three-save performance.
Starting in goal for Purchase,
Carolyn Hough (SO/Massapequa, NY) recorded eight saves across 67 minutes. Rookie
Rowe Davenport (FR/New York, NY) came off the bench to record three saves, holding CCNY scoreless over the final 23 minutes. Hough closed the game as a right fullback.
The Panthers will return to their home turf and back to Skyline play on Wednesday (Oct. 4). Purchase will host league powerhouse Sarah Lawrence College at 7 p.m.
