THROGGS NECK, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's soccer team was defeated in a Skyline Conference matchup Friday night, as Maritime College edged out the victory, 4-0.
With the result, the Panthers dropped to 1-12 overall and 0-9 in the league. For the Privateers, they moved to 7-2-5 and 3-1-4, respectively.
The hosts grabbed control early on with a pair of goals over the first 15 minutes and cruised from there. In the second half, they added two more strikes to pad the victory as the Blue and Orange were held scoreless.
Purchase nearly found the back of the net in the 57th minute off a shot from
Liam George (SR/Brooklyn, NY) but the chance was cleared away by the Maritime defense at the last moment.
Overall, shots favored the hosts, 35-13 and 15-4 on goal. In goal,
Jack Gjokaj (SR/Thornwood, NY) tallied 11 saves in the effort.
Up next for the Panthers is Senior Night, as the squad welcomes St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn on October 22nd at 6 p.m.
