Purchase Closes Season with Thriller vs. Bard

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's soccer team turned the page on the 2024 season Wednesday night, as they played a thrilling contest against Bard College to finish the year.

Ultimately, the Panthers fell on the night, as the Raptors scored during the dying seconds to prevail, 3-2.

In the first half, Oliver Broun (SO/Athens, GA) found the back of the net in the 27th minute to put the hosts in front. The strike came off a feed from Martin Nikprelaj (FY/Bedford, NY), lifting the hosts to a 1-0 margin at the break.

From there, Broun struck again early in the second, this time off an assist from Yahir Tafoya (FY/Bronx, NY), as Purchase was cruising.

However, the most dangerous lead in soccer is 2-0 and Bard showed why Wednesday night.

The guests got one back in the 52nd, before tying the contest up 16 minutes later in the 68th.

With all the momentum going their way, the Raptors took one last chance during the final 30 seconds, and managed to sneak one into the top left corner of goal to steal the victory.

For the Panthers, it was a tough result to end the season on, but one to learn from come next season.

Overall, Bard outshot the hosts, 28-14 and 12-8 on goal. In goal, Nicolas Nunez finished with a career-high seven saves.

With the final result, the Panthers concluded the season 1-15 overall. The men's soccer team will return to the field in August 2025.
