Men's Basketball Prevails over Hunter

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's basketball team cruised to an easy victory Tuesday night, besting Hunter College in a non-conference matchup, 89-70.

With the win, the Panthers moved to 2-0 on the year. For the Hawks, they dropped to 1-3.

For the contest, the Blue and Orange led for nearly the entire game, as the guests' biggest lead was just a single point early in the opening half.

The hosts used the 3-ball early and often to grab the lead, and never looked back. During the first half, Purchase led by as many as 20 points, before carrying a 42-24 margin into the midway break.

The margin grew even larger in the second half, with the Panthers leading by 26 points with under 13 minutes to go.

In the end, the Blue and Orange settled for a 19-point win during their first-ever victory over Hunter College.

Overall, Purchase shot 44% from the field and 39.4% from long distance. For the Hawks, they totaled just 26.3% and 26.7%, respectively.

Individually, Chad Duke (JR/Brooklyn, NY) paced the Panthers with a team-high 20 points and three steals.

A trio of starters - Tyler Bond (JR/Jamaica, NY), Matthew Phillips (DR/Bronx, NY) and Trey Skeete (JR/Brooklyn, NY) - each finished with 14 points apiece. 

Bond also grabbed seven rebounds and four steals, Phillips collected 15 rebounds and three blocks, while Skeete added seven assists and five boards.

Up next for Purchase is more home non-conference action, as the squad faces Johnson and Wales University this Saturday (11/23) at noon.
