BRONX, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's basketball team dropped a close contest to Lehman College, 69-54, on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Blue and Orange drop to 1-6 overall, while the Lightning improved to 2-3.
The contest began evenly, with both teams tied at 14 after the first quarter. Purchase kept pace through the second quarter, trailing by just one at halftime, 30-29.
The turning point came out of the half as Lehman took control, outscoring the Panthers 25-9. Despite a late push in the fourth quarter, Purchase could not close the gap, resulting in the 69-54 final score.
Individually, Charlee Neb (JR/Longmont, CO) contributed 13 points, shooting 4-13 from the field and had a perfect 5-5 at the line. Jessica McHugh (SO/Ellenville, NY) matched Neb with 13 points, going 9-10 from the free-throw line and added six rebounds. Kaylena Steiner (SO/Fresno, CA) added 10 points and seven rebounds, while Carlye Graff (SR/South Nyack, NY) put eight points and seven rebounds on the books.
The Blue and Orange outshot Lehman from the field, converting 39.0% of their attempts compared to the Lightning's 32.1%. Purchase also excelled at the free-throw line, hitting 74.1% to Lehman's 66.7%.
Up next, Purchase will look to rebound in Skyline Conference action when they host Farmingdale State College on December 4th at 7 p.m.
