NEW YORK, N.Y. – Purchase College junior Rashid Nikiema (Winooski, VT) has been named the Skyline Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week and earned Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) Weekly Honorable Mention, it was announced Tuesday.
Each week, the MBWA selects one player from Div. I and one from Div. II or III as its Player of the Week, along with a handful of athletes for its Honorable Mention list, spanning 70 schools across the New York Metropolitan area.
Nikiema is the first Purchase men's basketball player to receive MBWA recognition since Elijah Lott and Jorge Perdomo in 2020.
Over three games this week, Nikiema delivered impressive stats, averaging 29.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.6 blocks, and 2.0 steals per game. He shot an efficient 60.4% from the field (29-48) and 59.3% from beyond the arc (16-27). Nikiema led Purchase as the top scorer in each matchup and claimed the title of top scorer overall in two of the three games. Highlighting his week, he dropped a career-high 36 points against Mitchell College, shooting an outstanding 73.3% in the process.
The men's basketball team is set to host Yeshiva University on December 15th at 12:00 p.m.
