Panthers Prevail at Elms College

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Purchase College men's basketball team got back to its winning ways Saturday afternoon, besting Elms College in a non-conference matchup, 73-62.

With the win, the Panthers moved to 4-3 overall, while the Blazers dropped to 0-9.

The first half was a back and forth affair, as each side held the lead a handful of times.

While the hosts had the biggest lead of the opening frame, it was actually the Blue and Orange that led at halftime, 35-33.

Following the break, the second half was all Purchase, as the guests possessed the advantage for nearly the entire 20 minutes.

The biggest margin of the game came with just under four minutes to go, as the Panthers had grown their lead to 14 points, 64-50.

In the end, the Blue and Orange prevailed 73-62 to halt a three-game losing streak after starting the year on a three-game winning streak.

Purchase's offensive numbers were solid in the effort, particularly in the second half, as it shot 47.8% overall and 41.7% from long range.

The Panthers also enjoyed an advantage in points off turnovers (24-16), while limiting their own turnovers (14-18) in the win.

Individually, Rashid Nikiema (JR/Winooski, VT) continued to shine bright after finishing with a game-high 28 points, nine rebounds and three blocks.

Gabe Bristow (JR/Poughkeepsie, NY) totaled a career-high 16 points, while Trey Skeete (JR/Brooklyn, NY) added 14 points, seven rebounds and three steals.

Up next for Purchase is the Skyline Conference opener, as the squad welcomes longtime rival, Yeshiva University. That matchup is scheduled for December 15th at noon.
