MORRISTOWN, N.J.- The Purchase College men's volleyball team secured its victory Thursday evening against Saint Elizabeth University in a closely contested five-set match.
Scores for the contest were 28-26, 21-25, 25-17, 18-25 and 15-5. With the win, the Panthers are now 4-6 overall, while the Eagles dropped to 3-10.
The match began with both teams trading points one-for-one. Despite the competitive exchange, Purchase managed to edge out a narrow victory in the first set.
However, Saint Elizabeth rallied back, claiming victory in the second set, putting the pressure on the Blue and Orange to respond.
The Panthers took a close third set before they faced a setback in the fourth, leading to a fifth-set tie-breaker to determine the outcome of the match.
Purchase commanded the decisive fifth set, gaining a seven point lead at one point to sweep the set 15-2, claiming match victory.
Overall, the Panthers hit .158 with 40 kills, while the Eagles recorded totals of .122 and 49, respectively.
Leading the team was
Tyler Ryan (JR/Port Reading, NY) with a career and match-high 16 points and 13 kills.
Channing Williams (FY/Neptune, NJ) also recorded 16 points on 12 kills and six block assists.
Next for the Panthers is their first Skyline Conference matchup at Sarah Lawrence College on March 5th at 7 p.m.
