Purchase Faces Defeat Against John Jay

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College softball team experienced challenging defeats against John Jay College during Wednesday afternoon's doubleheader, leaving the Blue and Orange at 8-9 overall, while the Bloodhounds advanced to 19-7.

Game One: John Jay 11, Purchase 0  (5 inn)

On the day, the Panthers struggled to gain momentum, while the visitors secured an early lead with four runs in the top of the second inning.

While Purchase managed to get on base in the fourth and fifth innings, the team couldn't convert those opportunities into runs.

Meanwhile, John Jay capitalized on its chances, scoring seven more times in the remaining innings and ultimately ending the game after five innings with a score of 11-0.

Abigail Lipkin (SO/Bethlehem, PA) took the loss on the mound, pitching four innings and conceding eight runs on 11 hits. Katie Straub (FY/Lynbrook, NY) took over pitching in the final inning, allowing three runs on three hits while recording one strikeout.

At bat, Jade D'Errico (SR/Wantagh, NY) secured the only hit of the game for the Panthers

Game Two: John Jay 9, Purchase 0 (5 inn)

As weather conditions worsened, both teams persevered through game two.

Olivia Goff (FY/Syracuse, NY) assumed the pitching duties for Purchase at the beginning of the game.

Goff held the Bloodhounds to just one run after two innings, before they managed to hit two consecutive home runs in the third, gaining a 6-0 lead.

Samantha Christopher's (FY/North Babylon, NY) finished pitching the game, allowing three more runs to bring the final score to 9-0.

Goff yielded six runs on four hits and registered five strikeouts during her time on the mound, bringing her record to 4-2. Christopher, meanwhile, allowed three runs on four hits.

At bat, Christopher and Maria Konieczny (FY/Hadley, MA) recorded the sole hits of the second game.

Looking ahead, the Blue and Orange will host the University of Mount Saint Vincent on April 19th for a doubleheader, with the first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
