PURCHASE, N.Y. - Less than 24 hours after falling to Manhattanville College in a five-set thriller, the Purchase College men's volleyball team rebounded against the same foe to earn a win in four sets this time around.
Set scores for the contest were 25-12, 20-25, 25-23 and 25-15.
With the win, the Panthers moved to 16-11 overall and 11-5 in Skyline Conference games. For the Valiants, they dropped to 11-16 and 7-9, respectively.
The victory also locks the Blue and Orange into the 4th-seed for the Skyline Playoffs next week, which will mark just the second time in program history they will host a playoff game.
On the night, the hosts zoomed out of the gate to an easy first-set win, as they looked well on their way to victory.
However, Purchase suffered a setback in the second frame as they fell at the end. That made winning the third frame that much more important.
The hosts did just that, as they edged out a close finish to gain the advantage heading into a fourth stanza.
From there, the momentum firmly shifted to the Panthers as they prevailed with ease in the final frame of the evening.
Overall, the Blue and Orange recorded 47 kills on .337 hitting, which marked a big improvement from last night. As for the guests, they totaled 37 kills on .101 hitting, both of which were lower than the previous evening.Â
Individually,
Channing Williams (FY/Neptune, NJ) finished with a game-high 18 kills on .429 hitting. He also collected seven block assists and seven digs.
Jael Martinez (FY/Bronx, NY) chipped in 16 kills on .419 hitting, while
Aidan Araza (FY/Jersey City, NJ) collected team-high totals in assists (19) and digs (8).
Up next for Purchase is the final tri-match of the season, as the squad travels to New Jersey to face Ramapo College and New Jersey City University. The first contest is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on April 6th.
