KINGS POINT, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's tennis team was defeated in the Skyline Conference finale Wednesday afternoon, falling to the United States Merchant Marine Academy by the score of 7-2.
With the result, the Panthers were eliminated from playoff contention, as the winner of the matchup claimed the final spot.
On the day, the Blue and Orange sealed their first win at No. 1 doubles, as
Yuta Kawamura (SO/Old Greenwich, CT) and
Suleyman Eminov (JR/Mary, Turkmenistan) combined for an 8-4 victory.
In singles action, Kawamura again prevailed, this time rallying from behind to take the No. 2 matchup, 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-3).
Purchase nearly got another win at the No. 3 spot, but Eminov fell at the last moment by the score of 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (13-11).
As for the other results, USMMAÂ won with relative ease to seal the playoff birth. With the result, the Panthers are now 4-8 overall and 2-4 in the Skyline.
