PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's lacrosse team experienced a bittersweet Senior Day as they were defeated by Mount Saint Mary College with a final score of 6-2.
The day began with a brief ceremony honoring two graduating players, Senior
Jayden Morrobel (Bronx, NY), and 5th-year
William Cavallo (Centereach, NY).
Amidst the presence of their families, friends and cheers from full stands, the players received gifts and flowers, had photos taken with loved ones, and listened to a speech prepared by head coach
Dan Lawrence.Â
After the festivities, the team turned their focus to their opponent, Mount Saint Mary.
The first quarter saw both teams exchanging shots, but neither managed to find the back of the net.
In the second, the Knights scored the first goal of the game, but
Kevon Joseph (SO/Brooklyn, NY) quickly responded to tie the score. However, Mount Saint Mary added two more goals before halftime, leading 3-1.
The third quarter remained scoreless for both teams. However, Mount Saint Mary scored early in the fourth quarter, extending their lead.
Zach Collins (JR/Victor, NY) capitalized on a man-up situation to narrow the score to 4-2, but Mount Saint Mary added two more goals to secure the victory, ending the game 6-2 in their favor.
On the day, Joseph and Collins scored the only goals for Purchase, with
Shakim Carr (SO/Brooklyn, NY) providing an assist along with one ground ball and one caused turnover.
Notably, Cameron Savocca (FY/Nesconset, NY) had three ground balls and two caused turnovers, while the graduating players Morrobel and Cavallo contributed two caused turnovers and two ground balls.
In goal,
Will Boes (JR/Pleasantville, NY) made an impressive 15 saves and collected three ground balls.
The Blue and Orange finished their season with a 3-12 overall record and 0-7 in the conference, whereas Mount Saint Mary finished 4-9 and 3-4, respectively.Â
The squad will return in March 2025 for a new season.
