PATCHOGUE, N.Y. - The Purchase College baseball team dropped a pair of Skyline Conference games Sunday afternoon, falling to St. Joseph's University-Long Island by the scores of 5-0 and 11-1.
Game 1: St. Joseph's 5, Purchase 0 (7 inn)
In the opening game, the Panthers had runners in scoring position five times but couldn't find the timely hit needed to plate a run.
Despite being held scoreless, the Blue and Orange finished with eight hits in the effort.
Liam Daly (SO/Babylon, NY) and
Sam Saltzman (JR/Old Bethpage, NY) each recorded two hits apiece.
On the mound,
Myles Scarry (SR/Levittown, NY) tossed a six-inning complete game. He fanned six, while allowing five runs on five hits.
For the hosts, a two-run triple in the first inning gave them all they need on the afternoon, though two runs in the fourth and one more in the fifth helped pad the final score.
Game 2: St. Joseph's 11, Purchase 1 (7 inn)
The second contest of the day didn't fix the offensive woes for the guests, as they managed just the one run on four hits in the loss.
The run came in the sixth inning, after
Tyler Della Mura (SO/Rye Brook, NY) drove in
Luke DiLorenzo (New York, NY)Â with an RBI-groundout.Â
Besides that, game two was all Golden Eagles as they scored five runs in the first, three in the third, and then one apiece in the fourth, fifth and six innings.
On the mound,
Justin Doskoez (SR/Eastport, NY) was tagged with the loss after he allowed eight runs in 2.2 innings of work.
With the results, the Panthers moved to 12-11 overall and 4-2 in Skyline Conference action. For the hosts, they now sit at 13-7 and 6-0, respectively.
Up next for Purchase is a quick return to non-conference action, as it hosts WestConn on April 10th for a single game at 4 p.m.
