PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's basketball team was defeated in a close contest Tuesday evening, falling to Sarah Lawrence College in a Skyline Conference matchup, 66-59.
With the result, the Panthers dropped to 3-9 overall and 2-5 in the league. For the Gryphons, they moved to 4-7 and 3-4, respectively.
The contest was close all game long, as neither side held a lead bigger than seven points on the night.
For the Blue and Orange, they ended up leading for more than half the game, as they possessed the advantage for nearly 26 minutes. Their biggest margin came in the third quarter, as they led by six points on two occasions.
However, it was the final frame that decided the outcome for the two sides.
Initially, it was quite sloppy, but Purchase continued to led and eventually pushed its advantage to 59-55 with just under five minutes to go.
Unfortunately for the Panthers, they failed to score again, while the guests embarked on an 11-0 run to close out the contest.
In the end, they prevailed 66-59 in the tough Skyline matchup.
Overall, the hosts were undone by turnovers, as they committed 30 to Sarah Lawrence's 22. Outside of that, they won the rebounding battle, as well as many of the key scoring battles too.
Individually,
Carlye Graff (SR/South Nyack, NY) finished with a team-high 13 points, while
Kaylena Steiner (SO/Fresno, CA) added 12 points, eight rebounds and four steals.
Charlee Neb (JR/Longmont, CO) collected 11 points and six rebounds.
Up next for the Panthers is the first road action of the year, as they travel to St. Joseph's University-Long Island. That game is scheduled for January 10th at 4 p.m.
