PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's soccer team was defeated in the regular season finale Wednesday night, falling to the University of Mount Saint Vincent, 6-1.
With the result, the Panthers finished the year 6-10-2 overall and 3-6-2 in Skyline Conference games.
When compared to the 2024 campaign, the Blue and Orange improved across the board with five more wins and two ties under new head coach,
Bruno Ferreira.
For the Dolphins, they squad concluded with a record of 13-0-2 and 9-0-2, respectively to claim the No.1 seed in the playoffs this weekend.
From the very beginning, the guests showed why they were so successful as they took control early after constant pressure on goal.
In total, Mount Saint Vincent scored three first half goals, in the 8th, 11th and 19th minutes, before Purchase responded with its lone strike on the night.
This goal came in the 26th minute courtesy of
Yahir Tafoya (SO/Mount Vernon, NY) after he buried the chance off passes from
Luca Li Vigni (SR/Staten Island, NY) and
Parker Lewis (FY/Binghamton, NY).
Following the goal, the Panthers had renewed life and nearly tied the contest early in the second half, but chances from
Oliver Broun (JR/Athens, GA) and Tafoya just missed the marks.
In the end, the Dolphins knocked in another trio in the second half to seal the victory and cap the season in style.
Overall, shots favored the guests, 26-17 overall and 7-4 on goal. For the Panthers, Tafoya and Broun paced the squad with four shots each.
In goal,
Nicholas Sheridan (FY/Ansonia, CT) collected the loss.
The Panthers now conclude the 2025 season with a solid foundation to build on for the future, as only two of the 34 players this year were seniors.
The squad will return to action in August 2026.
