PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's volleyball team concluded the 2025 season Wednesday night, as it battled the United States Merchant Marine Academy to a four-set loss.
Set scores for the contest were 25-11, 25-10, 20-25 and 25-15.
Despite the loss, the squad set a historic mark as the third set win was the first in program history against the historically dominant Mariners of USMMA.
Over the previous 10 matchups, Merchant Marine won each contest in straight sets, before Wednesday's result.
In the frame, the Blue and Orange finished with 11 kills on .296 hitting, both of which were match-high marks.
Even more impressive was how they did it, as the Panthers led nearly the entire stanza and scored seven of the final eight points of the frame to seal the win.
In the end, USMMAÂ rebounded in the fourth set and escaped win the match but Purchase left the court on a high note.
Overall, the guests finished with 45 kills on .271 hitting overall, while the Panthers tallied totals of 28 and .053, respectively.
Individually,
Natalia Leite (JR/Thornwood, NY) led the way with seven kills, eight digs and a team-high 16 assists.Â
Maya Brown (JR/Carteret, NJ) added seven kills and 12 digs, while
Marcella Pena (JR/Bronx, NY) finished with a team-high 14 digs in the effort.
For the season, the Panthers concluded with a record of 3-18 overall and 1-10 in the Skyline Conference.
The squad had no seniors, so all are expected back when they return to the court in September 2026.
