This week's interesting tidbit is: Did you know Sean MacMenamin went undefeated in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate?

Undefeated seasons don't come easy, but Sean MacMenamin made it look that way in his first semester of collegiate esports, going undefeated in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and carried that momentum into the finals.

Purchase Esports launched in Fall 2023 after students seeking connection within the gaming community expressed feelings of isolation on campus. Since then, the group has secured funding for computers and equipment—including Nintendo Switches—ensuring accessibility for all experience levels and creating a welcoming, inclusive environment.

Esports Coach and Assistant Director of Experiential Education Jeffrey Arroyo notes that transfer students especially highlight how supportive the community is, where players are encouraged whether they compete seriously or just for fun. Purchase Esports competes through the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Esports, in collaboration with the SUNY Esports League.

As Sean wrapped up his undefeated debut season, he summed it up best: "I can't wait for what comes next…"
