Men's Basketball Downed at Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Purchase College men's basketball team was defeated on the road Tuesday evening, dropping a non-conference matchup to Salve Regina University by the score of 64-58.

With the result, the Panthers moved to 2-5 overall, while the Seahawks are now 6-1 on the young season.

On the night, the hosts led from start to finish after pacing the action. In the first half, they lead by as many as 15 points, before enjoying a 33-20 halftime advantage.

Following the break, the Blue and Orange began to slowly but surely trim that margin smaller and smaller.

Finally, with just under five minutes to go in the contest, the Panthers tied the game up on back-to-back possessions to level the score at 51-all.

But they could never get over the hump to grab the lead, as Salve Regina responded with a big 3-pointer to regain control for good. In the end, the Seahawks edged out the win, 62-56.

Overall, the hosts outshot Purchase in all three shooting categories, though the Panthers kept things close thanks to winning the turnover battle, 22-16.

Individually, Trey Skeete (SR/Brooklyn, NY) fueled the effort with 10 points, six rebounds, six steals, two blocks and two assists.

Ricky Rollins (JR/Schnectady, NY) added 10 points and two steals, while Desmond Ward (SR/Queens, NY) chipped in eight points, five rebounds and four steals.

Up next for the squad is more non-conference road action, as it travels to Albertus Magnus College on December 6th at 3 p.m.
