Panthers Split Tri-Match at Dean

FRANKLIN, Mass. - The Purchase College men's volleyball split a pair of contests Saturday afternoon, falling to Sage College in five sets and topping Dean College in straight sets.

Game One: Sage 3, Purchase 2 (25-27, 18-25, 25-15, 25-22, 16-14)

In the first match of the afternoon, the Panthers suffered a tough come-from-behind loss as they initially won the first two sets before dropping the final trio of frames.

Overall, the Blue and Orange finished with 44 kills on .153 hitting, while the Gators surpassed those totals with 58 kills on .225 hitting.

Individually, Channing Williams (SO/Neptune, NJ) recorded a team-high 17 kills and 10 digs.

Ayden Mercado (FY/Brooklyn, NY) collected 37 assists, while Udel Phillips (SO/Far Rockaway, NY) added nine kills on .300 hitting.

Game Two: Purchase 3, Dean 0 (25-14, 25-13, 28-26)

In the second contest of the day, Purchase responded in a big way by sweeping the hosts of the event.

Williams again carried the load for the guests, finishing with 18 kills and 11 digs, both of which were team-high totals. Mercado collected 33 assists to aid the effort for the guests.

Up next for Purchase is the beginning of Skyline Conference play, as the squad hosts Ramapo College and St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn on February 28th at 6 p.m.
