Yeshiva Outlasts Purchase in Skyline Showdown

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's basketball team was defeated at Yeshiva University Sunday afternoon, dropping the Skyline Conference matchup by the score of 90-82.

With the result, the Panthers moved to 10-11 overall and 6-6 in the league. For the Macs, they jumped to 13-8 and 10-2, respectively.

On the day, the contest saw 18 lead changes and nine tie scores, as the two sides battled throughout.

In the opening half, the Blue and Orange enjoyed the biggest margin at just seven points, before settling for a four-point advantage at the break, 47-43.

Following halftime, the Panthers continued to grow the lead, pushing the contest to its biggest difference of the day at nine points.

However, the hosts were resilient, keeping the contest within striking distance until they were ready to make their move.

As the game flipped to the final 10 minutes of action, that's when the Macs attacked to regain the lead for the first time since the opening half.

As the frame progressed, Yeshiva's margin began to expand before it settled for an eventual eight-point victory.

Overall, both teams shot the ball well with Purchase totaling a better percentage from the field and long range.

The difference in the win came down to free throws and rebounds, as the Macs easily outpaced the Panthers in each category.

Individually, Rashid Nikiema (JR/Winooski, VT) totaled a team-high 26 points, five rebounds and two steals.

Desmond Ward (JR/Queens, NY) added 17 points and seven rebounds, while Gabe Bristow (JR/Poughkeepsie, NY) collected 15 points on 66.7% shooting.

Up next for the Panthers is a return home as they host Sarah Lawrence College on February 11th at 6 p.m.
