FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - The Purchase College baseball team lost a pair of contests Saturday afternoon, falling at Farmingdale State College in a Skyline Conference doubleheader.
Game One: Farmingdale 11, Purchase 0 (7 inn.)
In the first game of the day, the Rams raced out to a big margin as they scored five first-inning runs, before adding five more in the fourth.Â
By the end, the hosts had tallied 11 runs on 13 hits, while the Panthers concluded the battle with three hits.
Liam Daly (JR/Bablyon, NY) led the effort with a hit and stolen base, while
Panos Sinis (JR/Pound Ridge, NY) had a single.
On the mound,
Myles Scarry (5th/Levittown, NY) collected the loss after allowing nine runs (seven earned) on nine hits over three innings.
Game Two: Farmingdale 10, Purchase 8
The second game of the afternoon saw the Rams take the lead early once again, this time by tallying two runs in the first inning.
From there, the score remained the same until the fifth when
Joe Salerno (SR/White Plains, NY) halved the margin with a solo home run.
The hosts then responded with authority in the bottom of the sixth by scoring seven runs to take a 9-1 lead.
While Purchase managed three runs in the seventh and four more in the ninth, it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit as they eventually fell, 10-8.
At the plate, the Panthers totaled 10 hits overall, including two each from Daly and Salerno.
Patrick Reyes (JR/Plainedge, NY) finished with a triple, three RBIs and a walk, while
Zachary Redlund (FY/Salisbury, CT) added a double and two RBIs.
On the mound,
Kyan Zamaniyan (SO/Smithtown, NY) took the loss after allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits over three innings of work.
With the results, Purchase dropped to 8-18 overall and 5-5 in the Skyline Conference. For Farmingdale, it moved to 14-8 and 7-1, respectively.
Up next for the squad is Senior Day, as the Panthers will celebrate nine departing members of the team tomorrow (4/13) against the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
First pitch is set for 11 a.m. with the ceremony taking place before the game.
