PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's volleyball team had its 2025 season come to an end Tuesday evening, as the squad was defeated by Manhattanville University in the First Round of the Skyline Conference Playoffs.
Scores for the contest were 28-26, 25-12 and 25-23.
Initially, it appeared that the Blue and Orange were well positioned for a great night, as they opened the game by scoring 11 of the first 13 points.Â
However, the Valiants showed why they won both regular season matchups between the two sides, as they slowly but surely rallied back.
Despite the comeback, Purchase still held set point twice in the frame, first at 24-22 and again at 25-24, but just couldn't seal the deal.
The hosts then scored four of the final five points to steal the frame, 28-26, as they set the tempo for the rest of the night.
The middle frame then saw Manhattanville cruise, before set three saw the action tighten up again.
While the hosts did lead the entire stanza, the Panthers remained competitive right down to the final point, eventually falling by the score of 25-23.
Overall, the guests finished with 36 kills on .233 hitting, while the Valiants totaled 46 and .277, respectively.
Individually,
Channing Williams (SO/Neptune, NJ) and
Hector Ruiz (FY/Bronx, NY) each recorded 12 kills apiece.
Victor Ruiz (FY/Bronx, NY) collected 33 assists, while Williams led the squad in digs with eight.
With the result, the Panthers finished the year 17-17 overall, as they tied their record for wins in a season set last year.
The men's volleyball team had no seniors, so the entire squad is expected to return next year when play begins in January 2026.
