Purchase Falls Late at Centenary

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - The Purchase College men's soccer team was defeated on the road Saturday morning, falling to Centenary University by the score of 2-1.

The hosts thwarted the Panthers late, as a strike in the 89th minute sunk their chance at a tie.

Early on, it was a tight battle as the two sides entered halftime, 0-0.

Following the break, the Blue and Orange struck first after Parker Lewis (FY/Binghamton, NY) slipped one past the keeper in the 56th minute.

Just nine minutes later, the Cyclones broke through with an individual effort, tying things up at 1-1.

As the half progressed, the Panthers pressed looking for a game-winning goal late, but instead were met with the opposite result in the dying moments.

In the end, Purchase outshot Centenary 15-4 overall and 9-4 on goal. Luca Li Vigni (SR/Staten Island, NY) finished with a game-high four shots.

In goal, Nicholas Sheridan (Ansonia, CT) was tagged with the loss after allowing the two strikes.

With the result, the Panthers moved to 2-1 overall, while the Cyclones now sit at 1-1.

Up next for the Blue and Orange is the home opener, as they host Pratt Institute on September 9th at 7 p.m.
