HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - The Purchase College men's soccer team was defeated on the road Saturday morning, falling to Centenary University by the score of 2-1.
The hosts thwarted the Panthers late, as a strike in the 89th minute sunk their chance at a tie.
Early on, it was a tight battle as the two sides entered halftime, 0-0.
Following the break, the Blue and Orange struck first after
Parker Lewis (FY/Binghamton, NY) slipped one past the keeper in the 56th minute.
Just nine minutes later, the Cyclones broke through with an individual effort, tying things up at 1-1.
As the half progressed, the Panthers pressed looking for a game-winning goal late, but instead were met with the opposite result in the dying moments.
In the end, Purchase outshot Centenary 15-4 overall and 9-4 on goal.
Luca Li Vigni (SR/Staten Island, NY) finished with a game-high four shots.

Nicholas Sheridan (Ansonia, CT) was tagged with the loss after allowing the two strikes.Â
With the result, the Panthers moved to 2-1 overall, while the Cyclones now sit at 1-1.
Up next for the Blue and Orange is the home opener, as they host Pratt Institute on September 9th at 7 p.m.
