Purchase Falters at Sarah Lawrence

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's basketball team was thwarted on the road Tuesday night, falling to Sarah Lawrence College by the score of 76-58.

With the result, the Panthers moved to 9-14 overall and 7-7 in the Skyline Conference. For the Gryphons, they now sit at 14-8 and 11-2, respectively.

The opening half saw the hosts race out to a lead early and hold on the rest of the way. During the first 20 minutes, the margin grew to as many as 20 points, before the two sides settled for a 40-26 score.

Following halftime, the Blue and Orange cut the advantage to just 11 points but never got within single digits over the remainder of the night.

Overall, the Panthers shot 36.1 percent from the field and 30.8 percent on 3-pointers. For the Gryphons, they put up totals of 44.8 percent and 41.4 percent, respectively. 

Individually, Desmond Ward (SR/Queens, NY) powered the effort with 14 points, 11 rebounds and four assists.

Sean Holzman (JR/Putnam Valley, NY) added 14 points and six rebounds, while Chris Hunter (SR/Charlotte, NC) collected eight points, three assists and two steals.

Up next for the squad is a return home as it takes on Manhattanville University on February 14th at noon.
