Men's Basketball Falls in Skyline Semis

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's basketball team had its season come to an end Friday afternoon, after falling to No.1 seeded Yeshiva University in the Skyline Conference Semifinals.

The final score was 86-71 and as a result, the Panthers finished the year 12-15 overall.

For the Macs, they moved to 19-8 and will now host the championship on Sunday against either Farmingdale State College or Sarah Lawrence College.

It was a tale of two halves for the Blue and Orange as they set the tempo in the first, before Yeshiva shot the lights out in the second.

Over the first 20 minutes, Purchase led by as many as eight points before settling for a one-score game at the break, 33-31.

Once the second frame began, the Panthers fell behind quickly as the Macs shot 66.7 percent from the field over the remainder of the contest.

In turn, the hosts grew their lead to as many as 17 points, but the Panthers fought hard the entire way, cutting the margin to just seven points with under eight minutes to go.

In the end, the lead was just too big and Purchase was defeated by its long-time rival.

Overall, the guests shot 40.3 percent from the field, but just 28 percent from long range. While the Macs finished with a similar shooting percent on 3-pointers, on overall field goals, they crushed it by making 54 percent.

As for the key battles, the Panthers bested the hosts with fewer turnovers (11-6), but were outpaced on rebounds (43-28).

Individually, Trey Skeete (SR/Brooklyn, NY) finished with a game-high 24 points in his final collegiate game, while also adding four rebounds and three steals.

Nate Maldonado (SR/Bronx, NY) added 16 points off the bench, while Chris Hunter (SR/Charlotte, NC) tallied 15 points as the duo also concluded their careers.

While the guard trio is departing, the rest of the squad is set to return in 2026-27.

The Panthers will now look to make the playoffs for a third-straight season under head coach Jack Dignan. They will return to the court in November.
