Panthers, MSMC Split Skyline Showdown

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College baseball team split a doubleheader Saturday afternoon, besting Mount Saint Mary College in game one and falling in the finale.

With the result, the Panthers are now 9-11 overall and 3-1 in the Skyline Conference. For the Knights, they moved to 7-11 and 2-2, respectively.

Game One: Purchase 7, MSMC 1 (7 inn.)

The first game of the day saw the Blue and Orange pound the guests early, as they scored seven runs over the first three innings.

In total, the hosts finished with nine hits, as Liam Daly (SR/Babylon, NY), Frank Rega (SR/West Islip, NY) and Patrick Reyes (SR/Plainedge, NY) each finished with two hits apiece.

On the mound, Brian Saldana (JR/Middletown, NY) cruised over 5.2 innings in the win. He allowed just one run on two hits with four strikeouts.

Game Two: MSMC 4, Purchase 0

The final game of the day flipped the other way for the Panthers. While they did put runners in scoring positions a handful of times off seven hits, they failed to plate a run.

Michael Pagano (FY/Franklin Square, NY) led the effort with two hits and a stolen base.

On the hill, Louis Gonzalez (FY/Yonkers, NY) was tagged with the loss after five innings. He allowed four runs on five hits with six K's.

Up next for the squad is a week of rest, before traveling to the United States Merchant Marine Academy on April 4th at noon.
