Men's Volleyball Secures Two Wins

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's volleyball team secured two wins Thursday night, as it dispatched SUNY Old Westbury and Brooklyn College to close out the home slate.

With the wins, the Panthers are now 11-13 overall and 9-4 in the Skyline Conference.

Game One: Purchase 3, Old Westbury 0 (25-23, 25-11, 25-20)

The opening game of the night saw the hosts roll past their Skyline foes in straight sets, as a big hitting advantage favored them.

Overall, the Blue and Orange finished with 45 kills on .329 hitting, while Old Westbury tallied just 26 and .197, respectively.

Individually, Hector Ruiz (SO/Bronx, NY) fueled the outing with 15 kills on .480 hitting, while Udel Phillips (JR/Far Rockaway, NY) chipped in 13 kills on .435 hitting.

Danny Kanner (FY/Smithtown, NY) recorded 23 assists, 12 digs, six kills and three aces, while Joey Toscano (SO/Levittown, NY) added 10 digs and five assists.

Game Two: Purchase 3, Brooklyn 1 (25-17, 25-19, 24-26, 25-18)

The second game of the evening also went Purchase's way, even after a slight slip up in set three. 

Even still, the hosts rolled with 49 kills on .213 hitting. For the Bulldogs, they recorded 38 kills on .111 hitting.

Individually, Ruiz paced the action once more with 19 kills, while Phillips tallied six kills to break the 500-kill career mark.

Kanner finished with 25 assists, nine kills, five digs and three block assists, Toscano had a match-high 16 digs in the win.

Up next for the Panthers is the regular-season finale at Sarah Lawrence College on April 4th at 1 p.m.
