Panthers Close Season With Senior Night

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's lacrosse team closed the 2026 season Tuesday, as it celebrated Senior Night in a close loss to SUNY Old Westbury, 8-7.

Before the contest began, the squad honored its graduating trio of Claudia Beasley (Irvington, NY), Madeleine Creed (Manhattan, NY) and Julieth Velasquez (White Plains, NY) with a speech, photos and gifts with family, friends and teammates.

From there, the squad pivoted to the task at hand - the Panthers of Old Westbury.

While the guests led early, the Blue and Orange kept things close as the score was just 4-2 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Old Westbury's margin grew to 6-2, before the hosts started to rally back. Over the remainder of the contest, the Panthers battled until the very end as they eventually trimmed the deficit to just one goal with eight seconds to go.

But there were not able to tie things up and continue the Senior Day battle, as the visiting Panthers prevailed, 8-7.

Overall, Purchase had 22 shots (nine on goal), 31 ground balls and four draw controls in the effort.

Velasquez powered the effort with four goals in her final game, while also collected seven ground balls, three caused turnovers and three draw controls.

Catie Chios (JR/Westbury, NY) added three goals and five ground balls, while Jill Creegan (SO/High Falls, NY) grabbed five ground balls, a draw control and a caused turnover.

Beasley finished with three ground balls and caused turnover, while Creed had a shot and two ground balls.

In goal, Savannah Haynes (FY/Yonkers, NY) finished with 12 saves and three ground balls.

With the result, the Panthers finished the year 0-12 overall and 0-8 in the Skyline Conference. The squad will return to the field in March 2027.
