PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College baseball team earned a pair of wins Friday evening, after besting the University of Mount Saint Vincent by the scores of 13-8 and 6-4.
With the wins, the Panthers are now 16-15 overall and 9-5 in the Skyline Conference. For the Dolphins, they dropped to 9-22 and 5-9, respectively.
Game One: Purchase 13, UMSV 8 (7 inn.)
The hosts opened the day with an offensive explosion, as they put up all 13 runs over the first four innings, including five in the second.
Overall, the Blue and Orange recorded six hits, as
Liam Daly (SR/Babylon, NY) finished with two doubles, six RBIs, two runs and one walk.
Brian Saldana (JR/Middletown, NY) also had two hits, two RBIs, a run and walk, as he started the contest on the mound. He went 2.2 innings in the no-decision.
Instead,
Sean Fanning (FY/Smithtown, NY) earned the win in relief, while
Nicholas Gonzalez (FY/Yonkers, NY) collected his first career save.
Game Two: Purchase 6, UMSV 4
While the second game of the day was closer throughout, the Panthers still prevailed in the end.
The two sides were evenly matched through the first six innings, tied at 3-all, before a three-run seventh inning gave Purchase all it needed in the win.
At the plate, the bats produced 10 hits for the Blue and Orange, as Daly led the way with four hits, including a solo home run in the third.
Michael Pagano (FY/Franklin Square, NY) added two hits, an RBI and a run in the effort.
On the mound,
Louis Gonzalez (FY/Yonkers, NY) collected the win in relief, as he went 3.1 innings and allowed just one run on three hits with five strikeouts.
Isaiah Rubin-Patel (JR/Brooklyn, NY) earned his sixth save of the season after recording the final two outs.
Up next for the squad is Senior Day on April 26th, as the Panthers host Manhattanville University at 11 a.m.
