PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's volleyball team had its season come to an end Wednesday night, as it fell in four sets to Manhattanville University in the Skyline Conference Semifinals.
Scores for the contest were 19-25, 25-17, 29-27 and 25-22.
With the result, the No.3 seeded Valiants move onto the Skyline Conference Championship at No.1 seeded, St. Joseph's University-Long Island.
For the No.2 seeded Panthers, they finished the season 12-14 overall and 10-4 in the league.
To begin the night, the Blue and Orange rolled in the first set as they cruised to a win. The script flipped in set two though, as the guests rolled to tie things up.
The third frame was the closest of the contest, as the two sides needed extra points to decide a winner.
After a battle throughout, the hosts produced three-straight set points but could not find a winner to take advantage.
For the Valiants, they just continued to hold off the attack until they finally edged ahead with three points in a row to steal the frame, 29-27.
From there, the two sides moved to the fourth and final frame, as the action remained close until the very end. However, Manhattanville produced six of the final nine points to claim the set and match to move on.
Overall, the Panthers finished with 52 kills on .209 hitting, as 25 errors sabotaged them in the end. For the guests, they finished with 52 kills on .314 hitting with just 15 errors.
Individually,
Udel Phillips (JR/Far Rockaway, NY) led the attack with 15 kills on .324 hitting.
Jael Martinez (JR/Bronx, NY) added 11 kills, while
Hector Ruiz (SO/Bronx, NY) tallied 10Â kills.
Danny Kanner (FY/Smithtown, NY) recorded 38 assists, 10 digs and five kills, while
Joey Toscano (SO/Levittown, NY) also finished with 10 digs.
Despite the loss, the Panthers achieved a handful of feats this season, including tonight being just the second time ever hosting a semifinals contest.
2026 also saw the program's best performance ever in terms of All-Skyline Team representation, as five student-athletes made the squad.
Even better news is that the entire team is expected to return in 2027, as it did not feature a senior this season.
