Leo Fortyz

Assistant Coach: Leo Fortyz

Fortyz returns as an assistant coach to the Purchase program. Over the years he has been a part of the foundation of the program’s success. His ability to develop positive relationships with his recruits and players is an important ingredient to the success of the program.

The 2014 Panthers dominated the Skyline Conference’s post-season awards, winning Player of the Year (Mike Sarni), Coach of the Year (Adam Taraska), and having seven players elected All-Conference.

Fortyz began his college coaching career at Lehman College in 2005 as a player/coach. In 2006 and 2007, he worked for Triple Crown Sports in Myrtle Beach S.C. where he wrote player evaluations for college prospects.

In 2008, with three years of recruiting Lehman completed a 19-11 season, which helped John Quirk win Coach of the Year in the CUNYAC conference.

In 2013, Fortyz founded The City Knights Sports Youth Foundation, a Non-Profit organization aimed at mentoring and coaching inner city children with volunteer college baseball players. In exchange, the volunteer baseball players earn the privilege to play summer baseball in the Van Cortlandt Summer League, where college players return home for the summer and stay competitive for the upcoming college season.

Fortyz lives in the Bronx and has a beautiful nine-year-old daughter, Amanda Lee, who loves spending time with her father and making visits to Purchase College.
