Purchase, NY (Oct. 23, 2011) – Women's tennis coasted into the Skyline Conference Tournament Sunday afternoon at home, overwhelming visiting NYU-POLY in a rescheduled matchup.

Sunday not only marked the final regular season contest on the schedule, but also the final regular season match for seniors Michelle Gil (SR/Syracuse, NY), Emily Bishop (SR/Syracuse, NY) and Alyson Lopez (SR/Brooklyn, NY) two days after celebrating Senior Night on Friday against MSMC. Head coach Patricia Troiano also took the opportunity to play a few non-regulars in the lineup against the Fighting Blue Jays. The match served as a nice tune-up for the league semifinals, which are set to open this coming Wednesday.

Purchase (8-4, 4-2 Skyline Conference) punched its ticket into the Final Four with today's victory – an 8-1 win over NYU-POLY. The Panthers will likely be the No. 3 seed and travel to SJC-LI Wednesday evening – weather permitting. The time for the match is TBA. More information will follow when the tournament seeding is determined on Monday.

The Panthers swept the doubles matches to get off on the right foot, rebounding from a tough loss on Friday night to No. 1 MSMC. Moriah Ormsby (SO/Montebello, NY) and Gabriella Marden (SO/Bayside, NY) teamed for an 8-3 victory at No. 1. Ashley Bernhardt (SO/Bethpage, NY) and Melissa Siller (FR/Roslyn Heights, NY) followed in an 8-0 win at No. 2, while teammates and No. 3 combo, Lopez and Gil, closed out the doubles sweep, 8-1.

In singles, Ormsby starred in a late come-from-behind super tiebreak. She dropped the first set to Ariel Zeig, a very talented player for NYU-POLY, but rebounded in a 1-6,7-5 (10-5) win. Her marathon match closed out the victory in style. Ormsby, who typically starts at No. 2, shined at No. 1 in a solid all-around day for Purchase.

Earlier, Bernhardt dispatched her opponent, 6-1, 6-1, moving up a couple of spots to play at No. 2. Lopez produced a similar result, winning in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 against NYU-POLY's Kelly Burbrink.  Gil added a 6-1, 6-1 win in singles at No. 4. Kim Whitehead (JR/Ronkonkoma, NY) also had a great day in singles, topping Sabrina Pardus 6-1, 6-2. Panther newcomer Angelica Pina (FR/Bronx, NY), playing in her first match of the season, looked sharp late at No. 6 singles, but dropped a tough one, 6-0, 6-3 in the team's lone loss.

NYU-POLY (0-10) finishes the season winless in conference (0-5). Meanwhile, the Panthers look primed for a long postseason run.
