(Oct. 3, 2012) – In between several postponements and cancellations in the past three weeks, Purchase women's tennis has navigated around some poor weather to manage to string together four straight wins.
The Panthers shutout NYU-POLY 9-0 on the road Wednesday night, delivering a sweep of singles and doubles. No. 1 singles player
Moriah Ormsby (JR/Montebello, NY) set the tone early, winning in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. Moving up a spot, returning All-Skyline selection
Melissa Siller (SO/Roslyn Heights, NY) won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2. At third singles,
Ashley Bernhardt (JR/Bethpage, NY) defeated Kelly Burbrink 6-0, 6-0 in yet another dominant showing by the Panthers.
Chelsea Quinn (JR/Southold, NY),
Lilly Murray (JR/New Canaan, CT) and
Jasmine Rippey (FR/Deansboro, NY) finished off the singles in wins. Quinn topped Sabrina Pardus 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4; Murray downed Stephanie Curbo 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5; and 6. Rippey capped the singles wins by earning a 6-2, 6-0 win against Miranda Merilli.
Earlier in the match, Ormsby and Bernhardt teamed for an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles; Siller and Quinn swept their doubles match, winning 8-0 at No. 2; and Murray and Rippey helped Purchase take an early 3-0 lead in an 8-0 sweep of third doubles.
The second-place Panthers are now 5-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play, trailing 3-0 FSC by one match in the standings.
