Flushing Meadows, NY (Oct. 9, 2013) – The Purchase women's tennis team reeled off its fourth straight win Wednesday night, edging Pratt Institute, 5-4.
In the process, the Panthers handed Pratt its first loss of the fall.
Purchase utilized two wins in doubles play to get rolling before securing the final three victories in singles to walk away with the narrow win in a chilly, three-hour, thirty-minute marathon at the USTA National Tennis Center.
Purchase's (4-1) Angela Assal (FR/Bronx, NY) and Jasmine Rippey (SO/Deansboro, NY) dealt Pratt's Agata Jakkubowska and Sarah Conant their first loss in eight matches, 8-4, in No. 1 doubles.
Assal handed Jakubowska her first loss of the season in No. 1 singles with a 6-3, 6-2 win over the Pratt freshman.
The Panthers took an 8-0 third doubles win, as Emma Yavel (FR/Brooklyn, NY) and Lilly Murray (SR/New Canaan, CT) ousted Pratt's Rachel Caires and Janet Lee.
Leading 2-1, Assal, Yavel and Erika Fulton (FR/Wallingford, CT) earned the singles wins at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 6 singles, respectively to close out the 5-4 margin.
Looking to make it five in a row, Purchase returns to action this Saturday at St. Joseph's College-LI.
