Farmingdale, NY (Oct. 19, 2013) – The Farmingdale State women's tennis team clinched first place for the upcoming Skyline Conference Playoffs with an 8-1 victory over Purchase College on Saturday afternoon.
The Rams now stand at 10-2 overall, 5-0 in the conference, while the Panthers dropped to 6-2, 3-1.
Farmingdale State first swept the doubles matches with wins of 8-0, 8-3 and 8-4 to take a 3-0 lead. In singles action, the Rams fell in only one match to secure the first-ever No. 1 seed for the women's tennis program.
Lilly Murray (SR/New Canaan, CT) earned the lone win for Purchase. The Panthers return to action Sunday against Yeshiva at home, looking to bounce back. They too are on the brink of clinching a postseason berth.
Purchase is now 1-1 on the week. The match against Sarah Lawrence was postponed Thursday, despite a 2-1 lead after doubles, because of a storm.
