Purchase Drops Season Opener

Baruch Wins 7-2

New York, NY (Sept. 8, 2013) – Baruch hosted Purchase Saturday and earned a 7-2 victory over the Panthers in the season opener for both programs.

The Bearcats (1-0) won five of the six singles and two of the three doubles to end a five-match losing streak to the Panthers.

Allie Jackson-Hing and Amandine Le Goupil-Maier topped Angela Assal (FR/Bronx, NY) and Juliette Ferraro (JR/Nortport, NY) 6-1, 7-5 at No. 1 doubles. At second doubles, Baruch's Jennafer Mukofsky and Elizavetta Glotova defeated Katherine Coleman (JR/Dewittville, NY) and Erika Fulton (FR/Wallingford, CT) 4-6, 6-2, 10-7 in a tightly contested matchup.

However, Purchase got back into the contest at third doubles, taking that matchup 6-3, 3-6, 14-12 with Emma Yavel (FR/Brooklyn, NY) and Anna Palmer (SO/Nyack, NY) teaming for a win.

But Baruch would dominate the singles behind Jackson-Hing at No. 1 and Le Goupil at No. 2.

The lone highlight for the Panthers in singles came at No. 5, where Lilly Murray (SR/New Canaan, CT) earned the victory, 6-2, 6-0.

Purchase (0-1) will return to action next week at John Jay College.
