Box ScorePurchase, NY (Sept. 17, 2014) – The Purchase College women's tennis team lost to Western Connecticut State University, 8-1, in a non-league match on Wednesday.
The Purchase sophomore duo of
Emma Yavel (Brooklyn, NY) and
Erika Fulton (Wallingford, CT) earned the Panthers' only win of the evening, defeating Lianne Maynard and Olivia Mauro, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles.
At second singles,
Jasmine Rippey (SR/Deansboro, NY) battled until the end but fell short, losing an 8-6 tiebreaker set to Angelica Jara.
All six singles matches were won by Western Connecticut but despite the loss, Purchase head coach
Andreea Oncioiu was pleased with her team's performance on the court.
"It was a well fought match in spite of the final score," added Oncioiu.
The Panthers, now 1-3 overall, will travel to Mount Saint Mary College on Sunday for a Skyline Conference match at 1 p.m.
