Box ScorePurchase, NY (Sept. 21, 2014) – The Purchase College women's tennis team rallied to edge Mount Saint Mary College, 5-4, in a Skyline Conference match on Sunday afternoon.
With the win, the Panthers advance to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the Skyline, while the Knights drop to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the Conference.
Purchase took home wins in first and second doubles.
Emma Yavel (SO/Brooklyn, NY) and
Erika Fulton (SO/Wallingford, CT) defeated the Mount's Isabella Tartaglione and Rebecca Tortora, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles. The Purchase duo of
Jasmine Rippey (SR/Deansboro, NY) and
Lilly Murray (SR/New Canaan, CT) added another point for the Panthers with a 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles.
The Knights took a point at third doubles when freshman Mallory Menneci and junior Ellen Hendricks defeated Purchase's
Hannah Youssef (FR/Carmel, NY) and
Alyssa Saulle (FR/Staten Island, NY), 8-0.
The Panthers led 2-1 as both teams prepared for singles.
Yavel went on to win again at No. 1 singles. She topped Tortora, 6-3, 6-1.
At second singles, Tartaglione defeated Rippey, 6-2, 5-7, 10-8, earning a point for the Knights.
Fulton and Murray went on to win No. 3 and 4 singles, locking in the defeat for Purchase. Fulton nabbed Menneci, 6-2, 6-1. Murray, who returned to the Panther roster just days before the match, had a standout performance, defeating Conroy 6-1, 6-0.
Purchase returns to the courts this Thursday as they host The Sage Colleges in a Skyline match starting at 4:30 p.m.
