Box ScorePurchase, NY (Sept. 5, 2014) – The Purchase women's tennis team lost a 6-3 decision to Baruch College in a home-opener match Friday evening.
Baruch gained a 2-1 lead early on after doubles action. Haley Bester and Allie Jackson-Hing defeated
Emma Yavel (SO/Brooklyn, NY) and
Erika Fulton (SO/Wallingford, CT) at No. 1 doubles with a score of 8-2, and Lizabeth Yagupolskiy and Cristina Aculova went on to win, 8-5, at third doubles.
At second doubles, the Panther duo of
Jasmine Rippey (SR/Deansboro, NY) and
Roula Zyada (SO/Cairo, Eqypt) defeated Diana Fedorkova and Helen Lee with a score of 8-5.
Baruch went on to win first, second and third singles.
Zyada and
Hannah Youssef (FR/Carmel, NY) picked up Purchase's only two victories in singles play, and they came at the fourth and fifth spots with scores of 6-2, 6-4 and 6-0, 6-0.
With the loss, the Panthers drop to 1-1 on the season while the Bearcats advance to 1-0.
Purchase returns to action Sept. 11 for an 8 p.m. match against Yeshiva University.
