Purchase, NY
(Oct. 10, 2015) – It came down to a penalty kick between Old Westbury and Purchase in the first overtime Saturday.
A foul inside the box triggered a PK for OW's Adilson Reyes in the 98th minute. With 2:09 on the clock, Reyes scored his first goal of the season – a game winner for the rival SUNY Panthers, who outlasted Purchase to improve to 4-7 overall and 4-1 in the Skyline Conference.
The loss drops Purchase to 4-10, including 3-3 in the league.
Purchase controlled possession in the first half, but Old Westbury managed to outshoot the hosts, 7-3. Meanwhile, Purchase held a first-half advantage in corners (4-1) in an evenly matched contest.
In the 30th minute, the Panthers got their best look at the goal in the period, courtesy of captain
Samvara Anello (SR/Bali, Indonesia). Anello curled a line-drive shot that OW keeper Peter Sicardi saved.
OW had three golden opportunities, including a free kick that was triggered by a Purchase card and two fast-break opportunities that the host Panthers thwarted in the opening half.
Defense dominated the first 45 minutes. Purchase's play was highlighted by midfielders
Yianni Amvrosiatos (FR/Warwick, NY) and
Denes Kostel (SO/New Hyde Park, NY), while the visitors were led by keeper Sicardi and defenders Jorge Rodriguez and Eric Ragogna. Westbury striker Dominick Guidice also performed well.
The struggle between the two teams ensued in the second half, with both clubs flashing some good offensive chances. Guidice got the final shot of the second half on goal in the final eight seconds, but it was saved by Purchase keeper

Purchase bounced back in shots in the second half.
Wil Kauffman (JR/Broomall, PA) and
Presnel Dalmeus (SR/Suffern, NY) both recorded nice shots in the final period of regulation. Purchase reserve
Alexi Hryniuk (JR/Brooklyn, NY) also logged some valuable minutes in the second half.
Regulation ended with OW holding a slim 16-14 margin in shots, including 7-5 on goal.
Purchase had its chances in the first OT, including two early corners. OW also had a couple of looks at the goal, but no real scoring opportunities until the card that triggered the PK.
Reyes subbed in midway through the matchup and wound up playing hero for OW in the extra session.
