Panthers Drop 2-1 Decision to MSMC

Purchase, NY (Oct. 17, 2015) – Cold and windy conditions at home on Saturday proved to not be the toughest battle on the day for the Purchase women's soccer team, as the Panthers fell to Skyline-leading Mount Saint Mary Knights, 2-1.

With the win, the Knights improve to 11-5-1 overall and 7-1 in Skyline action while Purchase drops to 4-10 overall and 4-3 in the league.

The Mount's heavy hitters along the forward line put the Purchase defense to work all afternoon.  The Knights  opened up the scoring in the 23rd minute with a Maeve O'Sullivan goal, assisted by Alaina Neddermann, from the top of the six-yard box.

Less than eight minutes later, Jackie Davis recorded her third goal of the season with an unassisted header into the upper right corner of the net.  The opportunity came from an initial shot taken by O'Sullivan that was deflected by Purchase goalkeeper Briana Leon (JR/Glen Cove, NY).

Neither team recorded a shot in the final minutes of the opening stanza as the Panthers trailed the Knights, 2-0, at halftime.

At 54:09, Purchase midfielder Mary Adams (JR/Mechanicville, NY) collected her first goal of the season to bring the Panthers within one at 2-1.  Adams took the ball at midfield, dribbled down the left line, and hooked a shot to the far post for the unassisted point.

Despite recording another three shots in the second half, the Panthers were unable to close the gap and trailed 2-1 for the remainder of the game.

The visitors held the shot advantage, 25-5, while tallying six corner kicks to zero by the Panthers.

Despite totaling an impressive eight saves in net, Leon was tagged with the loss to fall to 4-10 on the season.

Up next, Purchase welcomes non-conference John Jay College for a 7 p.m. game on Tuesday, Oct. 19.
