(Oct. 24, 2015) – The Purchase College volleyball team dropped a pair of Skyline Conference matches in its home tri-match on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers fell to St. Joseph's College-LI, 3-0, before dropping their second match to St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn, 3-0.
The Golden Eagles (15-13, 7-1 SKY) jumped out to an early lead in both the first and second set and never let up as they edged the Panthers, 25-7, in both sets. Purchase kept it close to open up the third set but a 12-4 kill differential would give St. Joe's the drive to end the match, 25-16.
The Golden Eagles went on to pick up another league win, 3-0 (25-10, 25-10, 25-19), against St. Joseph's-Brooklyn (7-11, 1-5 SKY) in the second match of the day.
Senior Heather Ferchland led the Golden Eagle offense in the victorious day with 19 kills, followed by sophomore Claire Urizzo with 17.
St. Joseph's-Brooklyn later bounced back from the loss, defeating the Panthers by a line score of 25-21, 25-21, 25-17 in the final match of the day. The victory marked the first for the visitors in Skyline action.
Senior middle hitter Lauren GaNun registered 14 kills and 13 digs on the day to lead the Bears.
Purchase outside hitter
Julia Chirlin (SO/Albany, NY) paced the Panthers with seven kills, 11 digs and three service aces. Junior
Victoria Blum (Bronx, NY) charged the defense with an impressive 29 digs.
Purchase (0-20, 0-8 SKY) will host York College on Friday for a non-conference match starting at 7 p.m.
