Strong Opening Half Propels WestConn at Purchase

Purchase, NY (Oct. 5, 2015) – A fast start for Western Connecticut State loomed large in an 8-1 win at Purchase Monday night.

WestConn sophomore Autumn Sorice charged the Colonial offense, tallying a hat trick. Sorice opened up the scoring in the fourth minute with an unassisted goal on a breakaway.  She added another at 11:40 off a through ball from teammate Emily Newhard. A far post shot, assisted by Kelsey Chacho, would give Sorice her hat trick and put the Colonials ahead 3-0 with 29 minutes left in the first stanza.

The visitors led 5-0 at the half backed by scores from Emily Newhard and Allison Oakley, respectively.

WestConn continued its strong play in the second half, adding three more (Meaghan Gustafson, Lucy Daniels and another from Oakley) before Purchase's Riley Graham (JR/Red Bluff, CA) finished off a beautiful shot from 25 yards out. Graham curled the shot in for her team-leading 15th score of the season.

Panther keeper Briana Leon (JR/Glen Cove, NY) was also a highlight for the hosts, making six saves in defeat.
